Silent Panic Attacks – How to Identify And Deal With Them?

Silent panic attacks as it seems, are silent attacks that cannot be seen from the outside but can be felt from inside. Only the person who is facing such a situation can explain that he/she is under such attacks.

These attacks are most related to mental health issues and can only be treated if a person is open to telling everything about what he experiences. Otherwise, people around you cannot tell you that you are facing silent panic attacks.

In this article, I will give you examples and information about such attacks, the difference between silent and normal panic attacks, how to stop silent panic attacks, and much more that will help you a lot in overcoming your fear and anxiety.

So, let’s have a little introduction first.

Silent panic attacks vs panic attacks:

Despite explaining each term to get the difference between them, let me be clear that the symptoms of panic attacks are visible but silent attacks are invisible to others.

Panic attacks are sudden or intense fear towards something that is not soo harmful as a victim may think. These intense fears sometimes resemble phobias where the person has no control over a specific fear.

In the case of silent attacks, the person usually faces similar fear or anxiety just like panic attacks but remains calm from the outside. Only the person who is affected can feel the presence of silent attacks.

That’s why, these attacks are known as silents. However, the attacks and the situations caused by such attacks are the same both in panic and silent attacks. The visibility differentiates both terms.

Silent panic attack causes:

There are many possible factors that can cause such attacks. These include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • Genetics
  • Stress
  • Sensitivity
  • Use of Substances
  • Perfectionism
  • Materialism
  • Social Anxiety
  • Avoiding Society
  • Hypervigilance
  • Introvert or other personality traits

These are some of the reasons that can cause silent panic attacks. Most of the causes are similar to traditional panic attacks but some causes are specific for silent attacks like personality traits, avoidance of society, perfectionism, sensitivity, hypervigilance, and social anxiety.

Materialism can also lead the anxiety stress which can further lead to silent attacks.

Symptoms:

You might be wondering what does a silent anxiety attack feel like? It is quite difficult to spot silent attacks because there are no physical symptoms but the psychological symptoms are still clear.

The person who is affected must be facing stress and anxiety which are the root symptoms. Intense fear, change in heartbeat, shortness of breath, check discomfort, upset stomach, detachment from society and reality, loneliness, dizziness, shaking, etc are the symptoms of such attacks.

Many symptoms are similar to traditional panic attacks but I have only written symptoms of silent attacks.

How to stop silent panic attacks?

Most of the time, the victim is unaware of the symptoms of silent anxiety attacks but if you are aware then, it’s time for the treatment. Some techniques are used to treat silent panic attacks after diagnosing the cause.

Visit a good psychiatrist who can diagnose the cause and use treatment methods according to the situation. Most of the time, exposure therapy does the work.

CBT therapy is also a proven method to treat silent panic attacks and traditional panic attacks caused by stress and anxiety.

Understanding silent anxiety attacks can also lead to methods that can be helpful in treatment. You may also control your fear if you know about it. Find the root cause that is leading to anxiety and try to cover the issue.

Silent panic attacks are not physically harmful but can lead to serious psychological situations. Necessary treatment is good if the situation is getting worse.
